Vista Healthcare Rheumatology offers treatments for musculoskeletal diseases and systemic autoimmune conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, lupus, gout and ankylosing spondylitis. Dr. Carmen Gota, a specialist in rheumatology and internal medicine with three decades of clinical experience, recently joined the team and is accepting new patients.

“I find it exciting to be able to serve the people of St. George,” Gota said.

Gota comes from Transylvania, a land of immense natural beauty and multicultural influences. She was raised by her uncle, a respected internal physician, who inspired her to become a doctor.

She attended medical school at Iuliu Hațieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, the oldest medical education institution in Transylvania. She graduated first in her class in 1989 and became an assistant professor of clinical skills for third-year medical students.

Gota spent a lot of time working in rheumatology while in medical school and became fascinated with the process of diagnosing inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. After moving to the United States, she completed a residency in internal medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, followed by postgraduate training in rheumatology at the Cleveland Clinic.

“I like the challenge of rheumatology,” she says. “As a doctor, I can have a big impact on someone’s health.”

After spending a year in private practice in Walnut Creek, California, Gota returned to the Cleveland Clinic in 2005, where she provided care to patients with various rheumatological conditions and was involved in teaching and training. of scholarship holders.

She has also been exposed to less common conditions, including Sjögren’s syndrome, vasculitis and psoriatic arthritis at the clinic’s Vasculitis Care and Research Center.

Gota and her husband of 30 years, an anesthetist trained in intensive care, have two adult children. In her spare time, she enjoys running, hiking, swimming, reading, and spending time with her family and her two dogs, Cora and Wigs.

She fell in love with the Southwest while traveling through Utah and decided to make St. George her new home. As a general rheumatologist at Vista Healthcare, she cares for patients with a wide range of rheumatological conditions using up-to-date, evidence-based treatment protocols.

Gota was drawn to Vista Healthcare’s patient-centered approach, which she says allows clinicians to focus on delivering care without the distraction of ancillary duties. Rheumatology is a multi-system specialty that invites communication and collaboration with other specialists, and Vista Healthcare offers every physician the opportunity to maximize their available resources for the best possible outcome.

“When I came to interview here, I really liked the mindset of this practice,” she added. “We are very advanced in our approach.”
