We had the great opportunity to interview Dr. Krysten Jacobs of Broadway Chiropractic & Wellness in Murfreesboro. They are located at 272 Heritage Park Drive, Murfreesboro, TN 37129.

Q: Tell us how you came up with the Broadway Chiropractic & Wellness concept?

A: We (meaning my husband, Dr. Matthew Jacobs, and I) have always wanted to control our own destiny. We have both experienced a variety of working environments as Physician Associates, and we wanted to be able to create a positive and open environment for all of our employees to thrive and enjoy their jobs! It also created an opportunity for me to have flexibility with my schedule to accommodate being a new mom, which is also very important to us.

Q: How was the process of opening a business during a pandemic?

A: After being partners for 2 years, we decided to purchase our own practice. We had to overcome quite a few hurdles to simply acquire the firm from its previous owner due to COVID. We began the acquisition process in December 2019 with an expected closing date of April 2020, but unfortunately this was delayed to November 2020. We were in the process of moving to mid-TN from Maryland. I found out I was pregnant with our first child in February 2020. Fast forward to the fall: we moved to Murfreesboro on October 1, 2020, our son was born on November 4, 2020, and the acquisition of the firm ended (finally!) on November 23, 2020 Many monumental “firsts” in less than 2 months!

However, after the successful acquisition, more than expected or expected happened in our first year of ownership. From the start we had to change a lot of procedures and processes in the office to be more black and white as opposed to different shades of gray…and unfortunately this resulted in a loss of about 50% of patients after our first month of ownership. BUT with our determination and the will of God to help us serve and love our patients, the size of our practice has doubled in 6 months, back to where we started! In addition, we received (and still receive) all our quality patient leads by word of mouth, which is rare for such a young practice.

Q: What is your customer demographic?

A: We offer a drug-free, non-surgical approach to health and wellness. We are for anyone who wants to live pain free using non-invasive and truly life changing solutions!

Q: What conditions do you specialize in treating?

A: We have a variety of specialties that benefit many patients! Each patient we treat has a unique condition, so we like to be able to provide individualized care to each. We treat patients of all ages: from infancy to retirement, as well as athletes, children and pregnant women. We are honored to be one of the trusted chiropractic practices that OBs refer their patients to.

Chiropractic adjustments “unlock” joints and increase range of motion, but most importantly, keep your spine and discs healthy to prevent pain and injury. Chiropractic adjustments help reduce pain and improve mobility and overall health.

Spinal decompression is a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment that uses traction to decompress your discs for pain relief. Spinal decompression is ideal for degenerative disc disease, sciatica, herniated discs, failed back surgery, etc.

Dry Needling is a physiotherapy technique based on the science of neuroanatomy that uses sterile threadlike needles to decrease muscle pain and tension. It decreases muscle tension, decreases pain, improves mobility and restores normal muscle and joint function. The increased blood flow to the treated areas promotes better healing. Dry Needling relieves muscle tension, neck and back pain, plantar fasciitis, headaches, TMJ, shoulder and knee pain, and more. Dr. Matthew Jacobs and I are certified through a thorough and rigorous training process to practice Dry Needling safely.

Q: Do you do community outreach/partnerships or plan to do so in the future?

A: We are always thinking of ways to connect with the community! We are a bilingual (Spanish) office and we love being able to provide high quality care to a largely underserved population. We serve as an entry portal provider for many patients: we perform a comprehensive history, exam, and take x-rays and/or refer patients for other advanced imaging when warranted. We help chiropractic patients, but we also recognize when chiropractic isn’t the best fit for their condition (i.e. we brought in a patient with severe wrist pain, and he proved to be a wrist fracture – we are unable to treat fractures of this nature) and we help them contact the appropriate doctors using our bilingual team to significantly minimize the barrier of language for the patient so they are truly able to get the care they need (even if it’s not from us) and really understand what their health plan is since our team is able to serve as a translator to defend them.

Q: What do you want the community to know about Broadway chiropractic?

A: Our mission is to change people’s lives! We strive to be a foundational source of positivity in the community that draws people in. Our office is bilingual (Spanish) and we pride ourselves on being upfront, transparent and honest with our patients about their care.

We are a fee-for-service office, so we are fortunate to not have health insurance that dictates the care of our patients – we are able to rightly do so as a physician to best serve and completely our patients. We pride ourselves on not offering a cookie-cutter approach to our patients’ healthcare! We help all of our patients to become as healthy and functional as possible: this journey extends beyond the disappearance of pain and is the most important part of stabilizing their condition to help PREVENT future relapses or injuries. . We are also able to provide more than just physical treatment to help our patients – our office environment is similar to a 1950’s hair salon – everyone is welcome, upbeat, very friendly and supportive ! Patients leave in a better mood than when they arrived.

Q: What is the best part of your job?

A: Changing people’s lives!!!!
